FRANCESCO
RAMPICHINI
Guitarist and composer born in Milan in 1960, he obtained his Degree from the “L.Marenzio” Conservatory of Brescia, taught by Claudio R. Conti. He attended composition masterclasses held by F. Donatoni, A. Clementi, L. De Pablo, J.C. Risset and H. Dufourt. He also studied trumpet and flugelhorn and conducting. Since early in the 80s he
has been devoting himself to
electronic and informatic music; in 1988 he founded with G.B. Zotti the
independent label musikAtelier, receiving a precious critical
contribution from
m° Marcello Abbado to their musical productions.
Inventor of Acousmetry®,
that he defines as ”a code of the geometric proportions perceived
through the
acoustic depiction of a space perspective”, in 2004 he published the
book Acusmetria. Il suono visibile
(Franco Angeli 2004), describing the basic principles
and the typical processes of this new language.
He composed various musics
for art exhibitions, video, theatre and
multimedia
arts, conceiving a wide range of interconnections between sounds and
images,
where the outcomes of his research on the isomorphisms between the two
fields
find their ideal application.
The cooperaion with
Giorgio A. Riva has given rise to the work, A quattro
mani (Maggioli, 2009) completely composed through a multimedia
language
syntax, actually four hands with the painter.
As a professor at the
Polytechnic of Milan (a.a. 1999-2005), he
contributed to
introduce sound as a project subject in the Design Degree Course.
He published several CDs
(with Rdc, Emi, mkA, Cadalo) and the
collections Otto studi per chitarra
(Bèrben, 1996) as well as Youth
Box (GI-MA, 2006); he is coauthor of the volumes Museo Sensibile (Franco Angeli,
2002) and Archestesie
(Spirali, 2004).
His compositions are
included in various anthologies and broadcasted by
Tv
channels as INTER-TV, RAI 3, CANALE 5, Rete A, Odeon TV, Sky TV (Class
Financial Network).
Besides his activity as a
concert performer, started in 1975, since
1987 he has
been working as a journalist and critic in the music editorial area,
for
magazines as CHITARRE (as editor in chief at the editorial office in
Milano
during a decade), SEICORDE, SUONARE NEWS, INTERNET & MUSICA, IL
MORDENTE,
MIDI SONGS, LA
GUITARRA, TRIBUNA
STAMPA, L'ERBA MUSICA and others.
Since 1986 he has
published over 200 articles. Subjects include musical
and
discographic criticism, history, technical and instrumental
evaluations,
musical transpositions and interviews with major contemporary
guitarists and
musicians (including Paco de Lucia, Julian Bream, Baden Powell, John
Williams, Ralph
Towner,
Oscar Ghiglia, Marcello Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Al & Janie Hendrix,
Eliot Fisk,
Roberto
Aussel, Eduardo Fernandez, Flavio Cucchi, Toquinho, Steve Hacket, Eric
Clapton,
Yngwie Malmsteen, Corrado Rustici, Kirk Hammet Metallica, Dweezil

Between 1985 and '89 he
has collaborated to the realization of movies
directed
by A. Bevilacqua, F. Brusati, P. Sandor, C. Vanzina, A. Celentano,
E. Oldoini,
A. Sironi, S. Rolla, L. Gasperini, with actors as V. Gassman, M.
Mastroianni, G. Giannini, H. Schygulla, S. Sandrelli and many others.
He has been a
guitar, informatic music and harmony teacher at the
Civiche
Scuole di Musica of Milan and Opera, at the Ateneo della Chitarra and
at the Istituto
Musicale Europeo of Milano. Currently he teach at CPSM in the “G.Verdi”
Conservatory in Milano and at the Civic School of Music in Locate
Triulzi.
He was President of the
Italian Jury for the Django D’Or
International Award,
sponsored by the French Embassy in Rome (1999), of the Principessa
Cristina
Trivulzio di Belgioioso Opera Competition, of the Rocco
Peruggini International
Guitar Award, as well as of the Ar.Me.S. cultural association (Art
Media
Science).
He has recently composed
the musics for the multimedia installations of
the Roman Theatre at the
Chamber of Commerce of Milan (2007), for the dramas by V.
Patera, Me, Charles Darwin
(Philosophy Festival, Auditorium Parco della Musica,
Rome, 2007) and Max Perutz, a Nobel
narrates itself (Bergamo Scienza 2006,
Auditorium, Piazza della Libertà) and he exhibits his work at
the multimedia
exposition Téchne 05
(Spazio Oberdan, Milano) Capriccio
Spaziale, acousmetric
room, staged with media_formasuono.
At present he is preparing
Hear
the stars,
acousmetric interactive
astrocartography project in cooperation with the “U. Hoepli”
Planetarium of
